Aleksander gets his own website

The growing popularity of Aleksander's books and their increasing number call for a website of his own.

Aleksander Krawczuk (d. 2023) was the legendary Polish author of 40 wonderful books on antiquity. His books have been international bestsellers in Eastern Europe, but due to the lingering effects of the Cold War, they started appearing in English only recently. Written in a highly readable, almost conversational style, with an occasional flash of literary wonder, they stand out for their use of antiquity as a mirror for modernity, a way to see ourselves from the perspective of the millennia. Never the dull "one-damn-thing-after-another" kind of history, they range from kaleidoscopic panoramas of an age (such as at the time of the last Olympiad in The Last Olympiad) to a whimsical reimagining of the private life and philosophy of a Roman best-selling author, Apuleius (A Meeting in Oea).

This has been a labor of love for us. Slowly, one at a time, we have been bringing Aleksander's books to the English reader; and now that the collection has grown to nine titles, and the sales have begun to grow steadily, it is time for Aleksander to have his own website.
